Own It
If you are reading this, I want to first welcome you to a hidden gem, underdog, or whatever you want to call it in the golf community. You did not think you needed us, but fear not, we are here.
A couple of weeks ago, I went to play a round of golf with a buddy and I am pretty sure I just about maxed out every hole. As most golfers would counter this with, “I normally hit those putts”, “I haven’t played in weeks, I’m a little rusty”, “It’s an off day for me”, or some other bullsh*t.
Well, not me. I am an absolute menace on the course and I know it.
Am I trying to work on my game? Absolutely, but it is no overnight fix! Back to the story, my buddy that I was playing with, Khal, was running laps around me on the course. Did I let that ruin my day? Heck to the no. I owned every trip beyond the fence, in the rough, and in the bunker.
Whether you are a novice like myself or an experienced golfer, own the day on the course, own your swing, and most importantly own yourself. Own yourself? You are probably thinking, what does that even mean? It means to play the game in whatever way makes you excited to step up for your next shot. For some, that means aiming to shoot under par on the day. For others, it’s about getting a chuckle when player’s like myself shank the ball across two lanes of traffic.
That’s the beauty of our game. There is no right or wrong way to play. I have seen too many players who are down bad, throwing themselves a pity party on the 19th hole, and I ask myself, where is the fun in that? Oh yeah, there is none. Next time you conquer the course, play the game how YOU want to play and OWN yourself, regardless of those around you.
Until next time,
Rob
